After the band’s last set, the DJ took over the music booth. He played “coming down” music – music that was mellow and slow. It was now close to closing and the crowd was thinning out. Carlos spotted Adina in a corner of the club in a huddle with her girlfriends.

One of them suggested they all go find a diner for breakfast but Adina declined and sent them along saying she was planning to hang out with the conga player. After merciless teasing, her friends left the club and promised to catch up with one another the next day.

Carlos was so intrigued by Adina he just wanted to hold her close. Once he saw that she was alone, he approached her with an outstretched hand. Upon accepting it, he led her to the dance floor and did just that while they danced. Slow songs played for a long time and with each song, Carlos held her tighter against his body, stealing kisses from her whenever he could.

“Let’s blow this joint,” he whispered in her ear, his voice thick with lust.

Adina dreamily looked up into his eyes and nodded. The next thing she knew they were on the sidewalk. It was four o’clock in the morning.

“Let’s find an after-hours spot.”

“No. Let’s go somewhere quiet,” she responded.

Carlos needed no encouragement and suggested they go to his place, on the Lower East Side. Adina readily agreed.

Carlos’ one-bedroom apartment was surprisingly neat and well appointed. A framed picture caught her attention immediately – a woman wearing a pearl headdress and matching necklace; her invisible décolletage.

She held a candle and her torso faded into a dark background right where the pearls ended. She had big, vacant eyes. They seemed to follow every move she made.

“Beautiful place you have here. I’m particularly impressed by your choice of artwork,” Adina commented as he approached her and gathered her up in his arms.

“You like what you see?” he asked.

“I like everything I see,” she responded and wrapped her arms around his neck while rising on her toes to kiss him.

Carlos leaned down into her, swallowing her mouth as they kissed. Their tongues tangled and Adina could hardly breathe, but she didn’t care. The hunger in this extremely passionate kiss told her everything she needed to know. She got in closer and ground her body against his. She could feel him respond as he inhaled deeply. He held her even tighter as he exhaled. She took a deep breath and swam in his essence.

The warmth that emanated from him, coupled with the desire they both shared made her lightheaded.

He held her cheek in his right hand tenderly. Then he grabbed a handful of hair with his left hand and gently pulled her head back, the right hand slid down her neck. He held it lightly as Adina’s breath caught in her throat. She tasted the bittersweet liquor that lingered in his mouth. His tongue was hot and desperate. He was ripe for the picking.

She took a hold of his face with both hands and kissed him back just as passionately.
